Marie I. McCarthy

Marie I. McCarthy, 80, of North Falmouth died Sunday, February 2nd, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.   She was the beloved wife of Joseph W. McCarthy of North Falmouth, whom she married in 1965.  She was the loving mother of John (Andrea) of Medway, Sheila (Peter Leddy) of Milton, Courtney  (Stephen Affanato) of Milton, Kara L. (who passed away in 1976), Michael (Trish) of Boston, and Meaghan of Boston.  She was the proud and loving grandmother of Matthew (Jessica), Devin, Rory, Declan, Owen, Caelan, Anna, Ella, Stephen, Norah, Julie and Molly and great grandmother to Maxwell and Cash.  She was the sister of Madeline McCarthy Lynch of Newport, RI, Elizabeth McCarthy O’Conor of Chicago, IL, and the late Florence J. McCarthy, Jr. of North Falmouth.  She also had many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, who she loved dearly.

Marie was born in Whitman to Florence J. and Mary (Driscoll) McCarthy. She was a graduate of Whitman High School and Salve Regina University.  After completing college she taught through the Lay Apostolate in Texas and went on to teach elementary school.

Marie settled in Whitman with her husband where she was a member of the Holy Ghost Church, the Mother's Club and with her husband was active in local politics.  After spending summers in her beloved New Silver Beach, she and her husband moved their family to North Falmouth in 1985.  Over the years, she was active in the New Silver Beach Association, Wild Harbor Yacht Club, North Falmouth Village Association, and Emerald House. She also was an active member of St. Elizabeth Seton Church where she was a volunteer wedding coordinator and a member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society.

Marie was full of love for her family and her many dear friends. Her profound strength came from her faith, which she lived by giving back to her community and caring for and supporting those around her.  She will be remembered for her smile, laughter and most importantly her kindness.
