Samuel Santos, Jr.

Samuel Santos, Jr., 84, of New Bedford, formerly of Wareham, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020 at Care One of New Bedford after a long illness.  He was the husband of Dolores (Costa) Santos and the late Lillian (Costa) Santos.

Born in Wareham, Mr. Santos was the son of the late Mary (Lopes) and Samuel Santos, Sr.  A previous resident of Boston, he moved to New Bedford 15 years ago.  Mr. Santos worked as a chauffeur in the Boston area for many years.

He was a former member of the St. Anthony’s Club in New Bedford and enjoyed playing bingo at the New Bedford and Westport Senior Centers.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores; his stepsons, Lawrence Braga of Palm Harbor, FL and Roger Bergeron of New Bedford; and his sister, Lillian Monteiro of Boston.  He was predeceased by his 7 sisters and 2 brothers.

Funeral will be from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham on Thurs., Jan. 16, 2020 at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford at 10 AM.  Visiting hours will be Wed. from 4 – 7 PM at the funeral home.  Interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.
