Sandra L. Knight

1944 ∼ 2020

Knight, Sandra L (Gilman) of Falmouth, formerly of Dedham, died peacefully at home February 2, 2020 after a lengthy illness with her family by her side. She was 75. Born in Brookline, she graduated from Dedham High School. Sandra began her career as a flight attendant with Trans World Airlines in 1964, but was let go in 1967 due to TWA's "no motherhood" policy. She then worked for the Town of Dedham, during which time she received a Commendation from the Governor’s Council for her work during the transition period of Proposition 2 1/2. After a Supreme Court ruling, Sandra resumed her career at TWA as a "Returning Mother" in 1982. She was awarded the Civilian Desert Shield and Desert Storm Medal for volunteering to work on flights transporting American soldiers to and from the Persian Gulf. Later, she was honored to work on the last TWA flight of the Lockheed L-1011 aircraft. In the years following her retirement, she worked part time and also volunteered for various organizations including Meals on Wheels.

Sandra is predeceased in death by her son James Knight, her parents William and Dorothy Gilman, and sisters Barbara Kirby and Judith Henderson. She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Denise Knight Karp of Falmouth, her son Brian Knight and his fiance Kelly Fay of Medway, her daughter in law Susan Knight of Foxboro, and her grandchildren Samantha, Matthew, Christopher, Benjamin, Emma, and Keira. She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.

She loved her career and travelled extensively, but wanted to emphasize that her greatest joy in life was her children, who will miss her dearly. A gathering of remembrance will be held at a future date. If you have lost touch and wish to attend, kindly send an email to KnightB765@gmail.com
