Salvador Matos Figueroa

Salvador Matos Figueroa, 77, of Wareham, died Jan. 2, 2020 in Bourne Manor Extended Care Facility, Bourne.  He was the husband of Paula Cabral Matos and the son of the late Emilio Matos Serrano and Dominga Figueroa.

He was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico and lived in Wareham for most of his life.

Mr. Matos Figueroa worked as a machinist for many years before retiring.

Salvador affectionately known to many as Papi, was a quiet, wise cracking, quick tempered, funny man who loved to cook, watch game shows, loved his Telemundo and watching sports.  Papi also loved to take things apart and gardening. He was always quick to help with any car ailment that would arise. A clean kitchen was his specialty, as he always reminded us “no dishes in the sink”!  Back in the day you could always find Papi at one of the kids game, chewing on a twig and tickling the back of their ear, neck or leg with a spear of grass.  Everyone’s name was a Chico/Chica to Papi.  In his later years he was not as social, and liked to keep to himself but his sense of humor never changed. Papi, you will be missed.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Paula Cabral Matos; a son, Tino Cabral and his wife Lenora of Cheshire, CT; a brother, Odilio Matos Figueroa of Florida, Puerto Rico; 4 grandchildren, Toriana R. Bunting-Figueroa of Wareham, Arman Cabral of Cheshire, CT, Nolan James O’Connor of Wareham and Jace Cabral Figueroa of Plymouth; his daughter-in-law, Kelly Amaral of Plymouth; 2 sisters-in-law, Marylou Cabral and Deloris “Lolly” Hayes both of Wareham; many nephews and nieces. His son, Ricardo R. Matos Figueroa died in 2017.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are by the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham.
